LAHORE: Attock Petroleum Limited (APL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Huawei Technologies Pakistan and AE Power to collaborate on developing a nationwide electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, marking a significant step toward advancing clean transportation in Pakistan.

Under the partnership, the three organisations will work jointly to establish EV charging stations across key urban and intercity locations, promoting the adoption of electric mobility and contributing to Pakistan’s broader sustainability and decarbonisation goals.

The initiative aims to accelerate the creation of a modern, energy-efficient transportation ecosystem while supporting national efforts to cut carbon emissions and strengthen clean energy integration.

Pakistan’s EV infrastructure development has gained strong momentum in recent years. According to official data, over 3,800 investors and companies have expressed interest in establishing EV charging stations, with more than 70 licences already issued and several facilities operational nationwide.

The government’s National Electric Vehicle Policy (2025–2030) sets an ambitious target of *10,000 EV charging stations by 2030, supported by tariff reductions of up to *44 percent to attract private investment.

Provincial governments are also playing a key role — Punjab has proposed installing 2,000 charging stations and deploying *600 electric buses, while Sindh plans to establish charging points every *50 kilometres along major highways to support intercity travel.

In Islamabad, Pakistan’s fastest 120 kW EV charging station was recently inaugurated, capable of fully charging vehicles within an hour — a milestone in the country’s EV transition.

Public interest in electric vehicles continues to grow, especially among users of two- and three-wheelers such as e-bikes and e-rickshaws, while private EV adoption is steadily increasing as charging networks expand.

The APL–Huawei–AE Power collaboration is expected to further accelerate these efforts, driving Pakistan toward a cleaner, smarter, and more connected energy future.
